The intrusion of fiction into documentary
To show Muriel Jeker, singer, in its different environments have been possible through the documentary, but after the first stage of investigation and research, the posting of the documentary took place in me, bringing with it freedom to introduce as many fictional elements the project embryonic asked.

The contract that bound me with Muriel at the beginning of this adventure has changed. It is no longer just about to follow in his activities as a singer and voice teacher in the interview, but to invite him to re-experience certain situations and others based around an imagined story is fictional but still remains in relation to his universe. With his consent, I started a new script in which it was no longer the subject of a documentary but a character in "real" fiction. I wanted to confront its behavior in natural and real professional game of an actress whose role would be another important character in the film. This actress has quickly distanced itself from all others. This is Penelope Pierson.

Casting
The research was conducted on the role the second main character. The singer was there and gave the reply to those who showed up to cast (most came from the theater with a proven track record.). What happened is very interesting: Muriel who had asked to stay true to itself and its role in everyday (giving her first singing lessons for a new student who is present) is somewhat destabilized actresses (affected as a true first experience of singing lessons.). Its benefits have emerged strong emotions, glances and deep game very unique, involved, human and personal ... I can say "désinstrumentalisé.

The border issue between the character, the actor and the role arose very quickly. Indeed, for Muriel who played his own role in the film sequences in the "real" as it is in the exercise of his profession as a singing teacher, the indications were purely technical. Some travel and positions in space were directed to meet the point of view. For other more scripted sequences in which it was to embody the character who feels something of the emotional, responsive, challenging ... we went back to process more fictional and leading actor was more demanding and more difficult for her. You had to concentrate twice as hard to get in some states and the question is asked of the game. This juggling between moments purely fictional documentaries and other exercise was a bit obvious to her. The game of Penelope, professional actress who can embody a role and offer it with accuracy and credibility, is encouraged by the naturalness and spontaneity of Muriel, which in turn, leaves through the side of Penelope mastered. The interaction of the two games was interesting in more ways than one. They sought both emotions in their memories alive, guided by their true faces in this film project.

After having written and directed a short fiction film for my graduation year 2004-05, I strongly felt the need to shoot another movie.
In the beginning there was talk of a documentary film on women artists in Lausanne and especially singers. On the very masculine world of music around them, the spaces available to them to exercise their art and life-night work they undertake.

I started my investigations in musical circles that I knew and I met a professional singer who has switched the focus of my project with him, apparently a blurring of gender.
Without stopping my investigations and my meetings, I took notes. Summary notes sometimes descriptive of real situations that I would later develop and use in my film. Gradually, a new writing took place, hybrid thereof and the thread of a story of characters began to take shape in my imagination with the appearance of a fiction inspired by the real.

I realized at the end of my writing in which I consciously organized moments "free", that is to say not very much written, the film that I would undertake a documentary and fiction together. A sweet mixture that delighted me and I had a passion to make this fun "documentary fiction" which today is at the heart of the construction of my identity as a filmmaker. In any case, it is the foundation of my current thinking.

After filming "Passion simple," a reflection on my new film inhabited me for the first time. To the question that was asked about what led this project, the essence of this writing and the real interest in, another concise and direct question: "How far my curiosity of others is she gone? .

When I brought this curiosity beyond a lived or experienced staff (which is often inherent in the documentary in its basic definition), has made a significant shift in the understanding and usefulness of the film to me. Perhaps is there was an evolution of about therapy, personal and particular to a more general about universal, but without one precludes the other, although they remain inseparable. It is especially not to get yourself in the middle of writing or not only.

1. Bar - Indoor / Night

It is nearly midnight in a dimly lit bar where there is a jam session. Some regulars are drinking their glasses and talk very softly. On a small stage, three musicians accompanying a young blonde woman in a thin and slender body that sings a jazz standard "What a difference a day made". She has a nice sultry voice, but it is not very comfortable on stage.
